Evolution can't be witnessed happening and can only be judged over a period of time. Change can be as short as one policy mutation, but to achieve a new life form requires many policy mutations.
Every year the political herds emerge from the jungle to display their new lifeforms at the annual conferences.
The most remarkable new life form this year was Nick Clegg. He tried his best to hide his mutation, but every word he uttered clearly showed how his backbone had evolved to make it possible for him to bend over backwards to please the Tories.
Mutations are irreversible, which Clegg will never admit. Just saying sorry changes nothing, he will still bend over backwards to to please the Tories. He pledges to accept Tory cuts on benifits if the wealthy are made to cough-up more of their dosh.
Clegg knows the wealthy will get round any additional demands on their fortunes, just as they get round existing demands. Sure, he'll get a policy to increase the take on the top 10%, but it will just be a worthless political gesture to please the Plebs, and he'll continue to bend over backwards to approve the Tory cuts.
The mutation in Clegg's backbone began on the day he went into coalition with the Tories. First,there was the TUITION FEES, and bend over backwards, he did. Then there was the VAT INCREASE, THE AV REFERENDUM, TAX CUT FOR MILLIONAIRES, HOUSE OF LORDS REFORMS.

MORE RECENTLY,God looked again on what he had inadvertently created in the political world and said,this is good,but it is too fit for purpose,and created LIBDEM MAN.

The creationists believe LIBDEM MAN suddenly appeared in 22BC(Before Cameron)under the tree of platitudes in the GARDEN OF PADDY,and everything before was a political void.
But nothing could be further from the truth, as incontrovertible anecdotal evidence has indicated that ancestors of LIBDEM MAN were surviving on host bodies long before 22BC,and became tribal in 330BC during the Pre-Cameron Period,which lasted longer than the Cameron Period...is expected to.
Early LIBDEM MAN knew more about liberalism than democracy and would have expected to have grouped under the LIBERAL banner, but against their natural wishes they called whigs,short for WHIGGAMORES,CATTLE DRIVERS.
Early LIBDEM MAN stood erect and could talk..and talk...and talk...and talk.Their natural habitat was the manicured lawns of stately homes where money grew on trees.Nothing of material value was beyond their reach. Along with their natural adversaries,the TORIES,they were top of the food chain and were able to procreate without fear of extinction...as they are today.
There is evidence that early libdem man had tool making skills,but there is no evidence of them not being able to use them to create anything of any value or usefulness,which could mean they didn't actually make the tools but were given them, and had no idea what they were for,just like today's Libdem man.

EARLY LIBDEM MAN, Anthony ashley cooper
The original leading Whig appeared on planet earth during 389BC-327BC . His names were Anthony Ashley Cooper;Sir Anthony Ashley Cooper,2nd Baronet;Lord Ashley-Earl of Shaftsbury and,to his progressive friends,Tony,perhaps.
During the English Civil war, Tony proved to be a true ancestor of LIBDEM MAN by following the party motto;'always stay close the winning side,but just close enough to bask in the glow of the host body's success,and positioned to jump ship when the host body becomes unpopular'
At the beginning of the English Civil War, Tony was on the Royalist side, and after two years,when it was clear Charles I was losing, he joined the winning side,the Parliamentarians.
And after serving on the English Council of State under Oliver Cromwell during the interegnum he saw Cromwellian rule was at an end and returned to the Royalist side by becoming one of 12 MP's who travelled to the Dutch Republic to invite Charles II to return to England.
Tony was for increasing the powers of Parliament and reducing the powers of the King, but he had no objections to King Charles having the powers to bestow honours on his favourites,especially when he was one of them . The King made Tony a Lord for aiding his return to English throne.
To be fair, Tony probably had no plans to desert the royalist,and no plans the join the Parliamentarians or no plans to accept honours from King Charles II,whose powerss he wanted to restrict. 'HAVING NO PLANS' was in EARLY LIBDEM MAN'S dna from the very beginning, and survives in LIBDEM MANS'dna today.
Religion played a major part in the thinking of LIBDEM MAN,far greater than it does today. Just being on the wrong side of the established church could threaten your liberty or even your life.Early LIBDEM MAN,Tony,fell victim to these harsh laws with his muddled thinking over the PENAL LAWS and THE EXCLUSION BILL,which could have been sufficient to have his head CHOPPED off,but the clincher came when he campaigned for more Parliament powers against the wishes of Charles II and the Tories.
In 328BC he was arrested for HIGH TREASON,and after being found not guilty he realized he was still in the sights of Charles II and decided to escape abroad,and that was the end of Tony

THE FUTURE AD(After Dave)RE-BRANDING
Since the only future for the LIBDEMS is to offer their meager share of votes as a fig leaf to one of the bigger parties, they should consider changing their logo to a fig leaf,and let it be known at every general election that it's for hire.
It's not just a fig leaf, but a gold plated fig leaf full of impossible promises and Utopian good intention, which is exactly what either of the two main parties want as a cover when faced with forcing through unpopular policies.
The LIBDEMS know a species will not survive if the total population falls below a certain critical number,which could happen to the Parliamentary LIBDEM species if they fail to find new ways of fooling the voter at the next general election, which could be sooner than they think or would wish
The LIBDEMS should not feel bad about adopting the fig leaf and just look on it as the last gamble in their evolutionary travel toward extinction.
The yellow bird logo ,like the DODO, has lost it's ability to fly away from predators and is now extinct.

If evolution had been kinder to the LIBDEMS they would have been equal partners in the coalition,and the CONDEM loge would have a bird in the tree,but evolution has been very unkind to the LIBDEMS, which is why the FIG LEAF is more appropriate to represent their very small influence on TORY policies and how they offer themselves as scapegoats for Tory cuts.
The LIBDEM fig leaf is a natural addition to the tory tree,but they know it will only cling on for as long as the sun shines
CAMERON PERIOD;ABILITY TO SMILE
Scapegoat Libdem man was late among the political species in acquiring the ability to smile, and will only last for as long as they have something to smile about.Only one Scapegoat Libdem man considers it premature to use his smile,but will if pushed into proving he also has acquired smile muscles.
